Earlier, a friend sent me a sample of The Body Shop masks (hello, The Body Shop; feel free to send me products for review too, haha). The sample pack had five masks: a British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask, a Chinese Ginseng and Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask, an Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask, and a Japanese Matcha Tea Deep Cleansing Mask. Overall, they all made my skin moist and supple, even though each mask has its own function. That was my first time trying masks from The Body Shop, and I got hooked!

I eventually decided to buy the Japanese Matcha Tea Deep Cleansing Mask because my skin looked dull, dry, and bumpy. Why this mask and not the Himalayan Charcoal one, which also cleanses? First, my dry skin couldn’t handle a charcoal mask. Second, the "Deep Cleansing" label on the Japanese Matcha Tea mask was too tempting, lol. I was so happy to get the full-size version because I didn't have to worry about it running out quickly. Let's dive into more details.
A. Packaging
The first impression of this mask jar is that it looks sturdy and strong, signaling that this mask means business. The jar is made of dark glass, which is a bit heavy, so you have to be careful not to drop and break it. But don’t worry; the deep black lid is made of plastic, so it doesn't add to the overall weight.

On the front, there's the product label in green. Sorry, the writing has faded because it’s been in my skincare stash for so long. For comparison, I grabbed a photo from Google with intact writing. On the back of the packaging, there are no complete ingredient details, just the main ingredients.
B. How Is the Texture? How Does It Smell?

At first glance, this mask looks like a scrub. It's soft with scrub granules. These granules help exfoliate dead skin cells when you rinse off the mask with water. Here’s what’s left of it since I’ve been using it for a long time. As for the aroma, I didn't get much of a matcha scent. Whether it's the smell of dandelion dominating, I'm not sure because I've never smelled dandelion before, but it has a plant-like fragrance.

C. Ingredients
“A facial mask containing matcha green tea from Kakegawa, Japan, dandelion extract from France, and Community Trade aloe vera from Mexico. It helps thoroughly cleanse the skin and remove dead skin cells.” That’s what the short product description on the back says. Let’s break down the main ingredients.
- Matcha Green Tea from Kakegawa, Japan: This green tea, produced in Kakegawa, absorbs more sunlight, so it contains more catechins (prevents aging), theanine, and vitamin C.
- Dandelion Extract from France: Dandelion helps increase collagen production and new skin cells.
- Aloe Vera from Mexico: Aloe vera forms natural antioxidants. These antioxidants prevent premature aging, treat acne, moisturize the skin, and have anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe vera stimulates the growth of new skin cells.
D. Product Benefits
The Japanese Matcha Tea Deep Cleansing Mask claims to cleanse the skin thoroughly and remove dead skin cells. From this, I hoped my skin would look brighter, cleaner, and fresher, and acne growth would be reduced due to the deep cleansing.
After using this mask, my skin felt brighter, moist, supple, and soft, and my pores looked cleaner. For severe acne problems, this mask doesn't work instantly, but it helps reduce the size of emerging pimples and prevents them from fully developing.

E. How to Use
As with using masks in general, clean your hands and face with soap first.
- Apply the mask evenly over the face. Avoid the eye and mouth areas.
- Wait 5-10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
- Use 2-3 times a week.
This mask gives a cooling and tingling sensation on the skin, indicating that it’s working.
F. Where to Buy?

G. Target Consumers
This product is mainly for those with dull, dry, and acne-prone skin. With a price that’s not exactly cheap, it targets consumers with a high budget for skincare and frequent repurchases.
H. Conclusion
Honestly, I bought this product almost two years ago, and I've been using it sparingly because I was afraid it would run out quickly. But I need to finish it this year since it expires this year. Will I repurchase it? I'd like to because the results are good on my skin, but if I do, I’ll need another mask in stock so I can alternate between them and not run out quickly. The price is quite high.
Pros:
- Instant effect: skin looks cleaner and brighter.
- The content is quite large, so it can be used sparingly.
- The combination of green tea, dandelion extract, and aloe vera helps prevent premature aging, increases collagen production, treats acne, and moisturizes the skin.
- The packaging is super cute and perfect for reusing even after the product is empty.
Cons:
- Heavy packaging can be brought for travel but is still heavy.
- The jar is made of glass, which is prone to breaking and not resistant to impact.
- If you have a lot of skincare products and need to buy this mask every month, it might be a bit of a hassle.
- That’s it. I hope we all get more fortune to buy more The Body Shop products. By the way, what are your thoughts on this mask?
